It’s that time of year again! Yes, it’s fall, the leaves are changing blah blah blah, more importantly it’s Battle of the Blades times!
Now starting its third season I’ve been lucky to attend nearly every taping of Battle, which pairs top figure skaters with NHL/professional hockey players. It’s like The Cutting Edge meets Blades of Glory meets reality TV.
This year the hit CBC show has an added twist, a female hockey player paired with a male figure skater. A fun twist but I’m most excited about the return of ice dance rockstar Marie-France Dubreuil. A cast member in the original season, MF skated through a serious concussion to finish a strong third in season 1.
She took last year off to have a baby with her on and off ice partner, husband Patrice Lauzon, but she’s back and better than ever. This time her partner is Bryan Berard and they’re skating in support of D.I.F.D which raises awareness of youth mental health issues.
They skated a great program last week in week 1, if you missed it check out their program on youtube.
The show airs in Canada on CBC Sunday nights at 8pm. After the show you can vote online or by phone, to vote for MF and Bryan call 877-844-8155. Results are aired Monday nights at 8pm.
You can also like Marie-France and Bryan’s Facebook page here. We’ll be posting photos and other updates each week.
And now I can finally let you in on part of the secret project I mentioned in the Michigan trip recap…
In season 1 we made shirts in support of MF and Shae (who is not skating in season 3).
So, of course we had to step up again this year. Puff paint and t-shirts, oh my!
We debuted these babies in week 1 but there’s more to come, stay tuned!
Don’t forget to tune in and vote tonight!
